Do you ever feel you aren’t getting everything you want from your team?
- Do you get frustrated when your team don’t take responsibility for doing the things you pay them to do?
- Are you disappointed that they don’t show the same level of enthusiasm for the job as you do?
- Do you live in hope that people’s poor performance is a one off and it will correct itself?
- Do you ever find yourself doing things you feel your staff should be doing?
- Do you resent your high labour costs, as you don’t feel you are getting value for money?
- Do you live in fear that if one of your key team members decided to move on you’d be left with a worrying lack of talent to operate effectively?
- Do you see people being busy, but achieving little?
- Are you fed up with having to correct the mistakes of others?
- Do you dread taking time off for fear of what you’ll find on your return?
Instead would you love to:
- Be greeted by a happy, enthusiastic and motivated team every day you come into work?
- Have all your staff using their initiative and make decisions without any input from you?
- Get complete buy in from your team with any new initiatives or changes you need to make to improve your business?
- Have your staff making recommendations to grow the business and enhance customer service?
- Take as much time off as you like in the knowledge that everything will run smoothly while you are away?
See your team work effectively together, support and cover for each other helping to contain your labour costs and so you never have to worry about staff shortages? - Help people progress and get promoted when opportunities exists so you have a succession plan in place and be confident in the knowledge that if any key people ever deciding to move on you’d have a ready made replacement?
- Get all of your team operating to 100% of their potential?
When I ask owners or managers in coaching sessions or training workshops if they feel they are getting 100% from all of their team, I always get a resounding no. When I ask what sort of percentage they think they are tapping into the average normally comes out at about 50%. So that means the other 50% must be going to waste. Would any of us stand for that sort of wastage factor on food, cleaning materials or energy? I doubt it, and with labour costs usually being one of the biggest overheads doesn’t it make sense to be utilising it to the full?
The hospitality industry historically has a low productivity rate and notoriously high levels of staff turnover, so shouldn’t we do what we can to contain or improve on these?
Often duty managers and supervisors in hospitality are promoted on the strength of their specific operational skills and ability rather than their man management or leadership skills. And when they move into a management role they are sometimes given little guidance on how to get the best from those they manage other than copying what they see others do or what they’ve picked up from the way that they have been managed themselves. Sadly these ‘ role models’ are not always the best examples!
Does this apply to you or any of your management team?
Why learn to be a leader? In business employees are often critical of the senior managers for lacking leadership, and at the same time are expected to be leaders without any training on what is involved.
Gone are the days when employees will unquestionably obey orders, at least not without good reason. In any area where you want more influence you must be a leader.
The Leading for Peak Performance ~ Foundations in Leadership Programme does what it says – teaches you or your management team the foundations of leadership and how to get the best from your team.
This is what the programme will enable you to achieve:
- Delegate responsibility to your team with confidence that the job will get done to standard, even when you are not there
- Have everyone working enthusiastically as one team towards your short term and long term goals
- Get complete buy in and suggestions from your team to maintain and enhance standards and continually improve the customer experience
- Deal with difficult people and poor performance in a way that achieves a positive end result for everyone
- Develop your team so you have cover and successors to key people (including you) should they decide to move on
- Recognise your own strengths and how to capitalise on these, and your development areas and how to address these
| I was quite a cynic at the beginning but I can now whole-heartedly recommend coaching with Caroline. The sessions taught me lot about myself and have helped me achieve goals that I set for myself. It’s difficult to write more recommendations without using clichés but I would encourage anybody thinking about coaching to go ahead with Caroline. James Nayler, Owner |
Strong leadership is one of the hallmarks of successful businesses. Good leadership can help to gain loyalty and commitment and in turn leads to a happy team, which translates into better customer service and happy customers. Good leadership therefore is just as important at the supervisory level as at a strategic level.
Increased competition, higher customer expectations, more people entering the hospitality industry from outside the sector have all placed more pressure on our industry to create loyal staff. This has only gone to increase the need for strong leadership, yet leadership and management is one of the areas frequently identified as a major skills shortage for the industry.
Leading for Peak Performance ~ Foundations in Leadership programme is aiming to address some of that gap, and is for business owners and manager who are actively involved in the day to running of the business, as well as heads of department and supervisors in larger hotels and hospitality businesses.
Despite the fact that leadership is one of the topics most widely covered and debated in business, there still seems to be a lot of untapped performance potential going to waste.
If you are the owner or manager then imagine what this programme could do for your management team. Training your managers and supervisors in the foundations of leadership can help you by:
- Boosting their confidence to enable them to take responsibility without having to check with you the whole time, taking some of the pressure off you to focus on other things
- Managing the operation in your absence enabling you to take a break when you need one
- Get the best from their team, making them more productive, and keeping down labour costs
- Develop a more motivated workforce, who is more willing to take on responsibility, give better customer service and take less time off sick
- Long term, potentially provide a successor to you
Having more competent staff is not a threat – it’s a way of ensuring your business thrives and develops – even when you are sat on a beach on the other side of the world.
If you are considering this programme for yourself it will help you to:
- Be more productive and get more achieved in less time
- Get the support of your team and create a more pleasant working environment for you
- Encourage your team to use their initiative and take more responsibility taking some of the pressure off you
- Give your team confidence to identify and make improvements to achieve better results and customer service
- Give you more confidence to deal with more challenging day to day situations
- And ultimately get better results that help to get you noticed and assist you in your career progression
I’ve developed the Leading for Peak Performance ~ Foundations in Leadership programme based on my own 25 years’ experience in hospitality and leadership development, at the coal face, in the training room and from working one to one with my coaching clients who span all levels of senior and junior management.
| I have been on a courses about leadership skills before, but Caroline brought it to life; how to use it in our day to day at work.
Mary Clifford, Team Leader |
Yes, it may be true that some aspects of a good leader you are born with, but even with some natural talent for leadership without practice, without experience and without self awareness a lot of that natural talent will be under utilised.

The core modules are the same, but you will get the materials delivered over a longer time frame, with interactive coaching and laser one to one sessions. This enables more time to put the lessons into practice, discuss how things are going, and get ongoing support to enhance your skills.
This option may be more suited to you if:

What are the benefits of an online programme?
Conducting the coaching on line makes it far more affordable, as well as being more flexible to suit individual work commitments, shifts and time zones. There’s no travelling involved, and if you want to work on your programme at 3 in the morning that’s fine by me (although I am not be so flexible on the laser coaching calls at this hour!).
However it does require an element of discipline on your part and if you need accountability then I recommend the Platinum Programme for you, where you’ll have deadlines for getting responses back to me to get full benefit from the programme.
Coaching on line also makes it more flexible for me as your coach. So what this means is I can offer the coaching for a fraction of the investment of conventional face to face coaching.
What is the investment?
To take the Fast Track is a one off payment of just £497. That’s less than many one day workshops and considerable less than most 2 or 3 day workshops covering a fraction of the material. Note this option will restart in September.
To take the Platinum is just a one off payment of £997. That’s getting one to one coaching with me for 3 x 30 minute laser session plus weekly online coaching and mentoring support. To have this level of input with conventional coaching would normally cost my clients in the region of 6 times this amount. Plus you have the members forum, so you’ll get the benefit of sharing ideas with your peers too as well as just me. If you’d prefer the break this down you can opt for the 4 pay payment plan at just £257 per month for the 4 months.
| Caroline is a superb coach. Working with her has been the most positive and empowering development activity, and I have achieved tangible results for both the business and for myself.
Working with Caroline has helped me to explore options I would not have otherwise identified, to develop action plans, and most importantly to take action. I have become more effective as a leader by reflecting on my performance, and identifying specific behaviours and competencies. Caroline’s has forced me to challenge my thinking, whilst offering support and encouragement, which has improved my ability to engage and influence others to get things done, and still freed up time to achieve my personal goals. The investment has been 100% worthwhile. Thelma McKay – Head of HR

But what will do is help you identify your personal attributes that will have meaning for your team in the context of your business. It will help to expose your strengths so you can capitalise on them, and flag your weaknesses so you can minimise them.
Here’s a summary of what you get with each programme
Yes please, Caroline. I’d like to register right away to get the benefit of the outstanding bonuses
The saying goes “people don’t leave their jobs, they leave their managers“. Can you really afford to let that happen?
